Innovation; the imperative for brands of the future

By Lisa Steingold

The current economic crisis is not the only factor forcing organizations to reconsider their business models and strategies. With resources becoming increasingly scarce and with escalating pressure from stakeholders to deliver on promises and provide meaningful experiences, brands of the future will need to embrace creativity and to innovate continuously in order to remain sustainable.

School Navigator Gordon Cook says: - “healthy brands require design thinking that will result in products and services that offer authentic value to all stakeholders. There will need to be more emphasis on brand leadership with decision making based on a wider range of variables than the typical bottom-line approach. In fact we need to revisit brand valuation models’

As Vega aims to graduate a new breed of brand thinker the emphasis is on teaching students how to generate ideas. The academic syllabus, which includes a large practical module, encourages students to question the status quo and to deliver innovative solutions. Both the creative and strategic undergraduate degree programmes as well as the photography programmes are taught within the context of building great brands. In addition to this wisdomwithmagic (creativity with strategic intent and also strategy applied creatively) is a fundamental principle within Vega.

Vega will be hosting a national open day on the 26 th of September from 9h30am to 2pm to enable prospective students to come experience and find out more wisdomwithmagic. Alternatively log onto www.photocollege.co.za or www.vegaschool.com or join “The official Vega School ” page on Facebook
